Man's jaw broken in unprovoked attack

THUGS broke the jaw of a man as he waited for his wife outside a kebab shop in Rochester. They battered his face in what police have called a "nasty and unprovoked" attack.

Police are now appealing for witnesses. The victim was assaulted outside the Star Grill Kebab shop in Star Hill between 2.45am and 3.06am last Sunday.

He had been waiting for his wife while she was inside ordering food for both of them when he was set upon by a gang of white men thought to be aged 18 to 20.

Police say the 31-year-old victim, from Meopham, near Gravesend, received serious facial injuries.

His jaw was broken in two places, he received two black eyes, a cut across the bridge of his nose and a cut across his left eyebrow, plus general swelling to his head.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Sgt Derek Littler of Medway Police said: "This was a particularly nasty, totally unprovoked attack and I would urge anyone who may have see the incident or was in the Star Hill area at the time of the assault to contact us immediately."

Anyone who has any information about the incident should contact Medway police on 01634 884071 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
