Strood man Christopher Kelly charged over meat cleaver raid at Co-operative in Chatham

A Strood man has been charged over a meat cleaver raid at a Chatham supermarket.

Christopher Kelly, of Columbine Road, was yesterday charged with robbery and shoplifting at the Co-operative.

The 33-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court today.

Police were called to the store in Kestrel Road at about 9pm on Saturday, February 22.

It was reported a man entered the shop and produced a large knife, described as a meat cleaver, before fleeing with a large amount of cash.

Kelly is charged with robbery at the shop on February 22 and shoplifting at the same store on Sunday, February 9.
