The paper was inspired to chose CLIC Sargent by Chatham dad Matt Loughrey who has raised thousands for the charity in memory of his daughter Emily, who died aged 22.

Since Emily’s death in 2007 after a short battle with cancer, the Loughrey family have been involved with countless challenges, from bike rides, to skydives, culminating in a trans-America ride this year.

Among many other highlight cam in November, when hundreds of people got their thinking caps on to help raise money. The charity was one of three causes which benefitted from the KM Medway Big Quiz at Lordswood Leisure Centre, Chatham.

In December, the Medway Messenger and kmfm held its own charity day for CLIC Sargent. The office turned pink for the day and held a bake sale, raffle and quizzes.

The event raised £250. Hannah Auer, CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for Kent said: "On behalf of CLIC Sargent I would like to say a big thank you to the Medway Messenger for choosing to support CLIC Sargent during 2012.

"I am pleased to announce that together with Medway Messengers readers, we have raised over £22,700 for children and young people with cancer.

"This partnership has not only created greater awareness of CLIC Sargent’s name and brand but also, the important cause and services local to the Medway area and beyond."
