Nearly 88 per cent of Medway four-year-olds starting reception class later this year will be at their first choice school.

Parents are finding out today which school their child has been offered for September.

Medway Council's figures also show that 95.96 per cent of families have received a place at one of their four named preferences for reception.

Also out today are admission figures for junior school (Year 3) which reveal that 99.53% of Medway pupils have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools, with 99.15% getting their first choice.

The schools admission process across Medway for reception and junior places involved a total of 4,254 children and 131 out of area pupils.

Applications for primary places opened last September and parents had until January 15 to make their minds up.

Cllr Les Wicks, in charge of education, said: "Starting school is an exciting time for children and an anxious time for parents, so we're very pleased that such a high number of families have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools."

The results come two weeks after the places were announced for the rest of Kent.
