Motorist Rahiah Powell-Grant, 21, of Witham Way, Strood, remanded after police chase across the Towns

A motorist has admitted several driving offences after a police chase across Medway during the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Officers spotted a silver Audi in the Mill Road area of Gillingham shortly after 1am and requested the driver stop but he failed to do so.

Police pursued the vehicle across the Towns before it later came to stop in Cliffe.

Police arrested a 21-year-old Strood man on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop and he was taken into custody.

A spokesman for police said: “At around 1.10am on Sunday, January 1 2017 a vehicle failed to stop when requested to do so by officers in the Mill Road area of Gillingham.

“A pursuit was authorised and the vehicle later came to a stop in Pond Hill, Cliffe.

“The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

“Rahiah Powell-Grant, 21, of Witham Way, Strood, has been charged with dangerous driving and driving without insurance or a valid driving licence.

“He was remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on January 2.”

Powell-Grant pleaded guilty to all three charges when he appeared yesterday and the case was adjourned and sent to Maidstone Crown Court for sentencing.

A date for this hearing as yet to be set, but Powell-Grant was remanded in custody until then.
