Police helicopter circled over Chatham on the hunt for a missing girl.

A police helicopter circled the skies above Chatham in the hunt for a missing girl.

The search was launched just after 11pm yesterday night and continued into the early hours of this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the girl was eventually "found safe and well" at 8.40am.

The search woke a number of people from their Sunday night slumber and some took to Facebook to track the location of the helicopter.

It was initially heard over the Great Lines, before moving on to areas including Princes Park, Luton Road and Maidstone Road.
