The snow starting falling as predicted at around 6pm last Thursday, leaving many struggling to get home from work.

Some motorists got stuck on Blue Bell Hill for several hours and cars were abandoned on the icy carriageway until the following day.

Drivers reported journeys from Medway to Maidstone taking three or more hours.

It took Amanda Gilbert, 29, two hours to travel just a few miles from her workplace in Chatham to her home in Lordswood.

One car skidded down Onslow Road in Rochester, and hit another vehicle before crashing through a garden wall.

No one suffered serious injuries but a woman who lives nearby said the police patrol also skidded on the snow and got stuck for a short time.

There were several reports of good samaritans doing their bit to help get people moving.

One Chatham resident posted online: “Well done to the man on Churchill Avenue that is out there with his shovel helping the cars that are stuck and giving them a push to get them going again.”
