YouGov poll reveals 'typical' Gillingham FC fan

A typical Gillingham fan is a middle-aged businessman who likes playing boards games and whose favourite meal is egg and chips.

That’s according to a new poll by the market research company YouGov.

A new web app was launched this week with target audience profiles of companies. One has been created for Gillingham FC - listing the likes, dislikes and shopping habits of its supporters.

The results make interesting reading. A fan is most likely to be male, aged between 40 and 59. All seems fairly straightforward so far.

But read further and you discover that fans’ top three hobbies are board games, performing arts and listening to music.

And it seems that Gillingham fans do not even like football very much - their favourite sports are listed as golf and snooker.

Comfort food is top of the menu – chips, fried eggs and peas is their favourite dish, following by bread pudding.

They are most likely to work in business and have £1,000 spare income to spend each month. They do their weekly food shop at Morrisons and the brands they buy include Branston Pickle and HP Sauce.

They are most likely to drive a Fiat car and read The Sun newspaper. Their most likely pet is a bird.

They spend between one and five hours watching TV each week and enjoy watching Ice Road Truckers and Harry Hill’s TV Burp, as well as BBC Breakfast and Dr Who.
