Kent rail passengers facing delays after power cut at Strood station

Severe train delays are easing this morning after electrical supply problems at Strood station.

Overnight engineering works led by Network Rail at the station over-ran and when they tried to restore the power there was a signal failure which caused problems with the track circuit.

The fault has led to a cancellation of services or delays of up to 30 minutes between Maidstone West and Strood.

Replacement bus services are operating in both directions until further notice.

Signalling problems between Strood and Gillingham are also affecting services between St Pancras International and Faversham via Gravesend; London Victoria and Gillingham; and London Charing Cross and Gillingham.

Services via Rochester and Faversham may be cancelled, delayed by up to 50 mins or revised at short notice.

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: "We've been trying as much as possible to divert passengers around the station on other high speed routes into London.

"We are really sorry to any passengers who have been affected and are working with Network Rail to get it fixed as soon as possible."

Disruptions are expected to carry on until mid-morning.
