Child hit by car in Church Street, Chatham

A road has been closed after a child was hit by a car in Chatham.

The little girl was knocked down in Church Street, near the junction with Best Street.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at around 12.30pm.

The girl was treated at the scene by paramedics for around half an hour before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in a serious condition.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: "Church Street is currently closed while enquiries are made into the circumstances surrounding the incident."

Another accident involving a motorbike and a pedestrian also closed nearby New Road.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at about 2.45pm.

An eye witness said a man was being treated by an ambulance crew and officers were controlling congestion building up.

The pedestrian is said to have suffered back pain, was treated at scene and taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
