A driver has denied causing the death of a teenage girl in a crash nine years ago.

Zahid Masood, of Heron Way, Rochester, is charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of Charlotte Smoker.

He appeared at Maidstone Crown Court and admitted perverting the course of justice by giving false details about his identity and then leaving the UK to evade prosecution as the driver of the Ford Focus involved.

Miss Smoker, a 19-year-old air hostess, of Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, was fatally injured in a collision on the M25 near junction 4 at Shoreham on November 3 2003.

Charlotte, who was driving a Fiat Cinquecento, died the next day.

Masood, 47, was remanded in custody and will stand trial on April 29.
