A broken-down vehicle near the Medway Tunnel causing serious congestion in the towns this evening.

Traffic was at a standstill after police closed a lane in the tunnel near Medway City Estate heading towards Chatham.

Long queues built up around Wainscott and Strood in the busy rush-hour but had mostly cleared by about 7pm.

The car broke down on the A289 eastbound on the A289 Medway Tunnel eastbound between Anthonys Way and Maritime Way.
