A memorial service has taken place in Chatham for sailors who died when their ship came under attack by the Germans during the Second World War.

Around 180 people gathered at the Historic Dockyard to pay tribute to the 186 crewman and their captain who died on board HMS Jervis Bay 70 years ago.

The lightly-armed merchant cruiser took the full force of a surprise German attack as she escorted a supplies convoy from Canada to the UK.
