Ian McLeod from the Historic Rochester Residents’ Association added: “We are not opposed to Subway.

"We were opposed to it staying open so late. I think the councillors gave it very careful consideration.”

A number of other conditions were also imposed.

They include: only eight customers being able to eat and drink in the premises at any one time after 11pm, a door supervisor at the entrance who must be registered with the security industry authority and no food, drink or packaging must be taken off the premises.
