Second teen arrested on suspicion of the murder of Kyle Yule from Gillingham

Detectives investigating the murder of Medway teenager Kyle Yule, have arrested a second person on suspicion his murder.

Kyle, 17, who came from Gillingham, was fatally stabbed in the town's East Street on Friday night. He died later in hospital.

Officers from the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate launched a murder inquiry after officers were called at 8.10pm.

A number of people were reported to be causing criminal damage to a silver Renault Clio, shortly afterwards Kyle was stabbed.

A 15-year-old boy from the Gillingham area was arrested on Friday night on suspicion of Kyle’s murder.

Detectives made a second arrest in the town shortly before 6pm yesterday, when they took an 18-year-old man into custody.

Both are still being held. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who may have information that could assist their inquiries.

A police spokesman said: “They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a group of people run from the scene of the incident in East Street towards West Street and onwards.

“This would have been at about 8.30pm on Friday evening.”

Last night a large group of young people gathered in Gillingham High Street to pay their respects to Kyle.

Medway district commander Chief Inspector Simon Alland said: “Officers attended and the gathering passed peacefully with no arrests.

“It is understandable that local people have been shocked and saddened by this incident, but I would like to reassure them that we are continuing to liaise closely with Kyle’s family and are making swift progress with the investigation.”
