Stephen Nowlan awaiting sentence for knife attack on rough sleeper on Great Lines in Gillingham

A man is awaiting sentence for a knife attack on a rough sleeper in Medway.

Stephen Nowlan, 34, was originally charged with the attempted murder of 40-year-old Rafal Zieminski on August 18 last year.

Mr Zieminski had been living in a tent on the Great Lines in Gillingham. He suffered multiple stab wounds and was found staggering through the Kings Bastion area of the park and bleeding heavily.

Nowlan pleaded not guilty to attempted murder when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court via a TV link with Elmley Prison, Sheppey, in January.

However, in April, Nowlan, of Canterbury Street, Gillingham, admitted a lesser offence of wounding Mr Zieminski with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

This was accepted by the prosecution and sentence was originally adjourned until June 29.

But the case was re-listed in front of Judge Jeremy Carey, again at Maidstone Crown Court, on Monday for sentencing to be further adjourned until Monday, July 13.

Nowlan, who was not required to attend the hearing, was remanded in custody in his absence.
