Hempstead father Lee Brearey dies in balcony fall in Budapest, Hungary

A father-of-two has died after falling from a balcony in Budapest while away with friends for the weekend.

Lee Brearey, who lived in Hempstead, was enjoying a trip to the Hungarian capital with a group of male and female pals when the tragedy happened.

The 31-year-old, a former pupil of the Howard School in Rainham, had flown from Stansted Airport on Friday, April 8, with the party, which is believed to have included his partner and mother of his children, Helen Farrell.

It is understood he fell and died on Sunday, April 10, after he arrived in the capital. The Foreign Office said it had been told about the death and was working with the British Embassy in Hungary to bring his body back while his family are being supported by embassy representatives.

Mr Brearey worked as a customer service engineer for BT and was based in Rochester. He and Miss Farrell have been engaged since March 2005 and have two young children, a boy and a girl.

Miss Farrell has posted pictures of Mr Brearey and herself and their family on her Facebook profile page and many friends have commented on the photo, saying they are thinking of her at this sad time.

Mr Brearey was also a keen musician and played with Medway-based band Sixes, who perform alternative rock and punk. The band have paid tribute to him by changing their Facebook profile pictures to a photo of Mr Brearey.

The band have played at various venues across the Towns including the Prince of Wales, Chatham, and The Rock Avenue Club, Gillingham, and released their first single in October last year, called Never Be The Same.

It is understood funeral arrangements will be made once Mr Brearey's body has been returned to this country.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office added: "Embassy staff in Budapest, Hungary, contacted local police following the death of a British man on April 10, and are supporting the family at this sad time."
