The homeowner initially attempted to put the flames out by smothering the fire with a frying pan, but when the crew arrived they took over and used a fire blanket to extinguish the flames.

A large fan was then used to clear the smoke logging from the house and crews gave candle safety advice to the homeowner.

Two fire engines were sent to the home and left shortly before 6pm.
