Strood teen charged after a laser was shone at police helicopter

A teenager who was arrested after reports a laser was shone at a police helicopter will appear in court next month.

The 17-year-old, who is too young to be named, was detained on suspicion of endangering the safety of an aircraft in Rochester High Street on Saturday, December 21.

The boy, who is from Strood, has now been charged with recklessly/negligently acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft/person in an aircraft.

The helicopter was helping with enquiries into reports of a burglary in Wainscott at the time of the alleged incident.

Another 17-year-old boy from Strood who was also arrested was given a youth caution for possession of drugs.

A spokesman for police in Medway said: "A 17-year-old boy, from Strood, had been charged was bailed to attend youth court at Medway Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday, February 11."
