Man from Rochester and two men from Gravesend arrested after thousands stolen from Hoo Village Institute in daylight robbery

Three men have been arrested after thousands of pounds were snatched from a village club in broad daylight.

Two men from Hoo Village Institute were walking from the club to the bank in the town with the weekend’s takings on Monday when they were approached from behind by a man who snatched the bag with the money.

Witnesses chased the man as he ran back towards Coombe Road, but he managed to leave in a white Peugeot Partner van.

A 36-year-old man from Gravesend and a 27-year-old man from Rochester were arrested on suspicion of robbery and bailed to 30 December pending further enquiries.

A 30 year old man from Gravesend was arrested on suspicion of theft and has been bailed to 24 January pending further enquiries.

Detectives have already issued an e-fit image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident, which happened at about 12.15pm, and are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Lee Neiles said: "We have arrested three people in connection with the incident, but I would urge anyone who hasn't yet come forward to do so.

"If you saw what happened, or you might have some information, no matter how small, it could prove crucial in this investigation.

"I’d urge you to contact as soon as possible."

The suspect has been described as a white man, of slim build with prominent cheek bones and about 5ft 8ins tall.

He was wearing dark clothing and a dark coloured baseball cap.
