A Medway thug described as a “dangerous individual” has been jailed after he pleaded guilty to stabbing a man in his flat who he had only met a few hours before.

Paul Gillion, 47, of Perie Row, Gillingham, was sentenced to six years and nine months at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday.

Gillion pleaded guilty to one charge of wounding with intent as well as two charges of common assault, including one on a police officer, and one count of making threats to kill.

He was sentenced after the judge heard how on Tuesday, May 17, last year, Gillion had approached the victim who was sitting on a bench in Roseberry Road, Gillingham.

The pair, who had not met before, began talking and went to Gillion’s flat where they both drank alcohol.

Gillion stopped the victim from drinking the beer and became agitated when the victim, who is in his forties, asked him for a drink.

An argument ensued, resulting in Gillion threatening to stab the victim who at that point was trying to leave the flat.

The man was stabbed four times, twice in his back and two times on his arm.

Not realising he had been stabbed, the victim managed to leave the flat and walk to a friend’s house before realising he was bleeding.

The man’s friend called for an ambulance and he was rushed to a London hospital where he was treated before being discharged.

Gillion was arrested at his home address on Sunday, July 3, 2016, and was later charged.

During the sentencing Gillion was also sentenced for a further common assault and making threats to kill, both of which related to an unconnected incident against a former partner, also assault on a police officer by kicking him whilst driving.

Investigating officer, DC Sasha Monck, said: “Gillion carried out a violent unprovoked attack on the victim which resulted in him being stabbed a number of times.

“He has proven himself to be a dangerous individual with a temper and this sentencing reflects quite rightly the gravity of this attack and also other incidents where he again displayed his temper and intention of causing pain against a former partner.”
