Thugs try to spray homeowner with ammonia in burglary in Hempstead

Thugs who forced their way into a home and tried to spray the man who lives there with ammonia are being hunted by police.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after two men forced their way into a home in Lambsfrith Grove, Hempstead, on Sunday, May 27, but details have only just been released by police.

The pair forced their way in between 10.15pm and 10.30pm and walked up the stairs where the homeowner was hiding in a bedroom.

They attempted to get into the room but the victim stood behind the door to stop them and at this point one of the pair then used a bottle to spray a liquid, believed to be ammonia, from behind the door towards the him.

It missed the homeowner and did not cause any injury, but the pair stole cash and jewellery before fleeing from the property.

The suspects have been described as white with both believed to be wearing grey balaclavas with a hooded top worn up.

One man was believed to be wearing a dark coloured tracksuit with a polo shirt underneath and black gloves.
