Toaster fire forces occupants to evacuate Strood property

People were forced to flee their home as flames engulfed the kitchen.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey house in Station Road, Strood, at 10.50am after a toaster caught alight.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, which had spread to the rest of the room, with a high-pressure hose reel jet and a main jet from a nearby water hydrant.

The kitchen was 80 percent destroyed by the fire, with the rest of the house suffering smoke damage.

There are no reported injuries.
