Commuters held up after car fire between Junctions 6 and 5, Chatham and Aylesford turns, of M20 London-bound

Commuters were caught up in delays tonight follow a car fire on a motorway.

Highways England said one lane of the M20 had to be closed leading to slow and queuing traffic.

The blaze broke out at about 5.30pm today on the London-bound carriageway.

This was between the Junction 6 Chatham and Maidstone turnoff and the Junction 5 Aylesford turnoff.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived to put out the flames.

Kent Police said that there was no reported injuries and the congestion began to ease.

It was the second major rush hour headache for Kent commuters in two evenings.

Last night a large pothole caused traffic delays on the A2 at Eltham, London, for commuters heading home towards Dartford, Gravesham and Medway.
