Police evict travellers from Diggerland in Strood after 36-hour stay

Travellers have been evicted by police from Diggerland, one of the county's most popular attractions, on Medway Valley Leisure Park.

Visitors were forced to remain in their cars outside the park while the site was made safe and staff cleared up the mess left behind.

Caravans turned up at the venue in Roman Way, Strood on Thursday night and staff immediately issued an eviction notice.

A spokesman said the park, where people can drive and operate real diggers, has fully reopened.

She said: "It's been a nightmare and cost us money. They have been threatening to staff and have defecated on our land.

"We have 500 people booked in various groups and parties and because it is such a sunny glorious day we are expecting about 1,000 visitors throughout the day."

She added: "Diggerland sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused to our customers."
