Two people arrested after car smashes into road sign in High Street, Strood, after pursuit by police

Two men were arrested after a car crashed into a road sign after allegedly failing to stop for officers.

The pair were arrested after a blue car being followed by police allegedly failed to stop.

The car crashed at about 12.20pm yesterday at the crossing in Strood High Street, and caused delays for other motorists.

Officers were able to arrest the driver and his passenger and take them into custody on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

No one injured during the incident and the incident caused delays for other motorists trying to get through the town centre.

At least three police cars were involved in the pursuit.

A spokesman for police added: A vehicle is reported to have failed to stop when requested to do so by officers in Watling Street, Strood.

After a short pursuit, which had been authorised, this vehicle is reported to have collided with a central island in Strood High Street.

"A 19-year-old man from Rochester and a 22-year-old man from Strood were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

"The 22-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

"Both have been bailed, pending further inquiries, until Saturday, June 25."
