Man in custody after fake £50 note is used at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham

A man has been arrested by police who are investigating a fraud involving a fake £50 note and pink teddy bear.

Officers in Medway released CCTV images following an incident on Thursday, December 18, when a men used a fake £50 note to buy a pink teddy bear at the League of Friend’s shop at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham.

Later the same day, it was reported another man entered the shop empty handed and picked up a pink teddy bear, worth £19.99 and went to the till with a receipt for it and asked for a refund.

Staff gave it to him and it was not until after he left the shop did they think his actions were fraudulent.

Police announced this morning (Saturday) they have arrested a 34 year old man from Chatham on suspicion of fraud. He is currently in police custody.
