Two men charged after robbery in Strood

Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged attempted robbery at a newsagents in Medway.

The pair were arrested following an incident at a newsagents in Bligh Way, Strood, on Thursday, May 3.

Police were called just before 9.30am after a man allegedly tried to grab a cashbox from a security guard outside the shop, but made off empty handed in a silver Audi A6, which had been reported stolen during a burglary in Croydon in April.

Both were arrested near junction two of the coastbound carriageway of the M2 at Strood.

The duo who are from London, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted robbery and were charged on Friday morning with several offences.

Ricky Turner, 24, from Peckham, was charged with robbery and aggravated vehicle taking.

Johnathan Kerr, 34, also from Peckham, was charged with possession of cannabis, receiving stolen goods, attempt robbery and dangerous driving.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear at a later date.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident.
