Man and woman taken to hospital after smash on M2 coastbound carriageway near Chatham

Two people were taken to hospital this morning after a crash between two cars on the M2 coastbound carriageway near Chatham.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the scene, near junction 3, at about 8.50am after the smash.

It is understood firefighters helped free a man from one vehicle and made the scene safe.

The man and a woman were taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

The incident has closed on lane of the slip road for the A229 turn-off at Blue Bell Hill.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: "Ambulance crews in three ambulances and a car attended the scene.

"Two patients, including a woman with an injury to her head were both assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

"At least one further patient was treated at the scene but no one else required hospital treatment."

Police are still at the scene managing the traffic.
