Driver taken to hospital after van collides with lamp post in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham

A van driver was taken to hospital after crashing his vehicle into a lamppost, railings and another vehicle in the early hours of this morning.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Magpie Hall Road in Chatham, near to its junction with Kitchener Avenue, after the crash at about 1am.

Street signs, a lamppost, railings and at least one car parked in the street were damaged during the smash, which happened near the mini roundabout in the road.

The driver, who was not thought to be seriously injured, was taken to hospital by ambulance and fire crews made the crash scene safe.

Police confirmed the man was later arrested and was still in custody this morning.
