Vandals have been damaging lampposts in a five-day wrecking spree.

Witnesses are being sought after lamppost covers were removed and fuses taken out in the Chattenden area of Rochester.

In total 13 lampposts have been damaged.

All the offences happened in the area including Swinton Avenue, Elmwood Road and Lodge Hill Lane, between September 7 and September 11.

Investigating officer, PC Martin Marenghi, said: "We have received a number of reports to say that covers to the lampposts are being removed and the fuses taken out, resulting in the lights going out of service and in need of repair.

"The council are working hard to make the lampposts safe but it will take some time to get them fixed and functioning again, which is of concern to local residents.

"I’d urge anyone who has any information to get in contact."

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Marenghi on 01634 792332 quoting reference XY/28980/13. Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
