Game is more than a walk in the park at sports centres in Strood and Gillingham

The game may be played at a walking pace, but too much foul play will still result in a red card.

Walking football is becoming an increasingly popular sport and despite the slower speed, there is still competitiveness on the pitch.

It is exactly what it sounds like, a standard game of football, but players walk instead of run.

The game is aimed to help people get fit or maintain an active lifestyle no matter what their age and fitness.

It is also ideal for people looking to get back into football if they have given it up due to age or injury.

Older people who take up the sport can also reap the benefits, as it helps lower heart rate and blood pressure and leads to better mobility.

And, of course, the social benefits of playing the game are meeting new friends.

Sessions are held at Medway Park, in Mill Road, Gillingham, on Mondays between 10.30am and noon.

They are also held at Strood Sports Centre, in Watling Street, on Tuesdays between 11am and noon and on Fridays between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. It costs £3 per player.
