Firefighters rescue woman from car on A289 Hasted Road Higham

A woman had to be cut free from a car which crashed into a wooded embankment.

The crash happened on the A289 Hasted Road in Higham near Rochester just before midnight.

Firefighters were called to the vehicle, which had left the road and came to rest half-way up the embankment beside the carriageway.

Rescue crews working with paramedics, and under emergency lighting, stabilised the vehicle and then used hydraulic “jaws of life” spreaders and rams to create space so the woman could be examined.

She was strapped to a spinal board and taken to Chatham's Medway Maritime Hospital by ambulance.

Two other people were treated by paramedics at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

The crew from Kent Fire and Rescue was at the scene for just under an hour.
