Pensioner taken to hospital after crashing into railings on A2 Watling Street, Gillingham

A pensioner was taken to hospital after she crashed her car into railings on the A2 at Gillingham earlier today.

The crash happened at about 10.30am in Watling Street and the woman, who has not been named, is thought to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel of her Volkswagen Golf.

Firefighters from the nearby Chatham Fire Station, along with paramedics were called to the scene, which happened about 200 yards from the station.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

Crews helped paramedics lift the woman out of the car and made the scene of the crash safe.

The pensioner, who was not thought to be seriously injured, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment.
