Gills boss Justin Edinburgh admits time may be a hindrance to making a renewed push for the play-offs.

A 2-1 victory for Edinburgh’s Gillingham side at Crawley on Saturday all-but-secured their place in League 1 for another season.

The Gills ended a run of four games without a win and passed the magic 50-point mark to move back to within five points of the play-off race with seven games left.

“Until you are mathematically safe you have to keep cracking on and that’s what we’ll do,” said Edinburgh.

“We have a group of players who will push themselves to try and get as many points as we can. We’ve got two games in quick succession (next weekend) and we are looking forward to those.”

In what has been a bizarre League 1 campaign, the Gills could still chase down a top-six finish.

Edinburgh said: “The only thing is that games are running out but you have to go until you are told you can’t do it. We will just concentrate on winning football matches.

“That was a very good one, against an in-form team, a team who are physically strong, firing a lot of balls into our box and I think we dealt with that well.”
