Gillingham striker Cody McDonald back to his best after scoring against Shrewsbury says boss Justin Edinburgh

Cody McDonald was back on song for Gillingham at the weekend.

The striker was recalled for the suspended Rory Donnelly at Shrewsbury and grabbed the opportunity.

He scored a stylish first goal for the Gills, in the 2-2 draw, and only the woodwork denied him a second.

It was a performance that delighted boss Justin Edinburgh.

The Gills manager said: “I was pleased and thought that was as good as Cody has played all season.

“Hopefully it will be a kick start for him.”

McDonald has been plagued by injury for much of the season, robbing him of his sharpness.

Edinburgh said: “It is the best he has felt with the injury he has been playing with. I think that was reflected in his movement and performance, and with his finish.

“He was just a whisker of paint away from winning us the game. I thought him and Dominic Samuel really linked up well and it looked like a partnership that could flourish.”
