Gills boss Justin Edinburgh is hopeful his injured players will make a speedy recovery.

Jermaine McGlashan missed Saturday’s game with Dover after picking up an Achilles injury.

He could be back this Wednesday, however, when the Gills host Brighton at Priestfield in a pre-season friendly.

Cody McDonald and captain Doug Loft are also on the mend.

Edinburgh said: “(McGlashan) had a sore Achilles and we rested him – we didn’t want to take any risks. We are hoping he will be fit for Wednesday’s game."

Loft was due back in training early this week but Wednesday's game may come too soon for McDonald.

"He will probably train in the latter part of this week," said the manager.

Jake Hessenthaler, who also recently picked up a knock, started against Dover.

“He recovered a lot quicker than we initially first feared when he got the injury,” Edinburgh said.

“It’s always good and you want every player available. You want competition for places and selection headaches.

“We are working our way towards that now and hopefully we can get Lofty and Cody back sooner rather than later and hopefully continue to keep everyone fit for the first game.”
