Chatham assistant manager Peter Hawkins wants quick start against Harlow in Ryman League Division 1 North

Chatham welcome in-form Ryman League, Division 1 North title challengers Harlow to Maidstone Road this weekend – and they won’t be backing off.

While Chats, beaten 2-0 at AFC Sudbury last weekend, face a battle at the bottom of the table, Harlow are hoping to extend their five-game winning streak. But assistant boss Peter Hawkins insists his team will be gunning for a scalp from the off on Saturday.

He said: “They are up there for a reason and when we played them at their place, we were unlucky. We went 1-0 up and could have got two or three before half-time.

“If we play like that again and take our chances, then we can get a result.

“You always have to take the lead when you’re at home, try and push them back and put them on the back foot.

“Hopefully. we can get an early goal to settle us down. That means they have to come forward, meaning you can get them on the breakaway. It just depends on how you start, though. You have to give yourself a chance.

“We’ll be going for it but at the same time we will have to stay solid and compact. It will be a tough one as they are on a roll.”

Liam Hickey and Lawrence Collins, both unavailable last Saturday, are in contention for selection.
