Andrew Crofts is a doubt but George Williams and Dominic Samuel could return for Gills

Loan midfielder Andrew Crofts missed the midweek trip to Rochdale and could be a doubt again this weekend for Gillingham.

The Brighton player, who has started six consecutive games since returning on loan at Priestfield, came off last Saturday against Port Vale with a hamstring injury.

Gillingham are confident that Fulham loanee George Williams (hamstring) will be back from his own injury and hopeful that Reading agree for Dominic Samuel to resume playing after a knee injury.

Boss Justin Edinburgh, speaking on Tuesday, said: “George will be fit for Saturday and Dom is possible, we are hoping. We will make contact with him and Reading and see how he is progressing with his running.

“Crofts picked up a hamstring on Saturday which is why he came off. We will have to assess that.”

Jake Hessenthaler limped off towards the end of the game at Rochdale but that was put down to cramp.

The Gills take on a Shrewsbury side at Priestfield who are in poor form and struggling at the wrong end of League 1.

It will be as tough as any other game, says the Gills boss.

He said: “It’s been hard and the players will continue to give everything. Fans know that, they are not silly, they applauded them off the pitch (at Rochdale) and know they have been wholehearted."
