Gillingham will have an extra day to prepare for Charlton Athletic after moving Bristol Rovers game

Gillingham have moved their home game against Bristol Rovers to Good Friday, April 14.

The Easter weekend fixture had originally been scheduled to take place the following day, on the Saturday.

Kick-off for the League 1 match remains 3pm.

All clubs have a 10 day period to make slight alterations to their fixture lists, which were released last Wednesday.

Moving the match gives the Gills an extra day to prepare for their bank holiday match away to rivals Charlton Athletic.

Rovers have enjoyed back-to-back promotions over the last two seasons, rising through the National League and League 2 to take their place in League 1 for the 2016/17 campaign.

Gillingham enjoyed a 4-0 win over Rovers in their last visit, on September 15, 2012. Danny Kedwell scored twice in the League 2 fixture while Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale also netted.

The Gills have started their preparations for the League 1 campaign today (Wednesday) with a series of fitness tests.

Games at Braintree (July 19) and Billericay (July 20) get their pre-season programme underway.
