Callum Reilly completes Gillingham deal after leaving League 2 Bury

Gillingham have completed a deal to sign Bury midfielder Callum Reilly.

The 24-year-old made a good impression on boss Steve Lovell during a stint on loan at the end of last season.

He made 15 league starts for the Gills, under Lovell, who made him one of his priority signings during the summer. Reilly has joined on a two-year deal.

Reilly made the move to Priestfield in January 2018, with the left-sided midfielder immediately impressing, the Gills beating Scunthorpe and Fleetwood in his first two appearances.

He was on the losing side only four times in his 15 games for the Gills last season.

The former Birmingham trainee went onto play for Burton and Coventry prior to his move to Bury last summer. He became available to sign permanently this summer after Bury's relegation from League 1 and there were plenty of teams keen on his signature.

Boss Steve Lovell said: “One of my main priorities over the summer was to bring Callum back to the club in a permanent capacity. He was excellent for us on loan last season and I’m delighted we are going to be working together for the next two years.”

He’s the latest midfield addition for Lovell, who has already brought in Regan Charles-Cook, Josh Rees and Dean Parrett over the summer.

Reilly has played international football for the Republic of Ireland, at under-21 level and played 18 games during Burton’s promotion season from League 1 in 2015/16. The move to Burton ended his time at Birmingham, which had seen him clock up 60 league appearances for them.

His league debut was for Birmingham in the Championship, playing 90 minutes against Crystal Palace in his first game, back in December 2012.

It's been a busy week for the Gills, who announced the signings of both Barry Fuller and Brandon Hanlan on Monday.

The Gills have also published their financial accounts, for the period covering the 2016/17 season, showing a slight profit. Click here for details.
