Parrett was offered a new deal by the Dons but has chosen to make the switch to Priestfield instead.

He said: “The ambition of the club matches my ambitions. I enjoyed my time at AFC Wimbledon and felt I did really well there.

“It was time for a new challenge and having sat down with the manger I saw the passion was there and I wanted to play for him. I’m looking forward to it.”

He started his career at Tottenham and played internationally for England from under-16 to under-20 level. He featured in the UEFA Cup for Spurs but got a taste of league football with loan moves to Aldershot, Plymouth, Charlton, Yeovil and Swindon.

Gills boss Steve Lovell added: “He came through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur so he’s been nurtured very well.

"He has plenty of Football League experience under his belt and I’m sure the supporters here at Priestfield will enjoy watching him play.”
