Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh wants his side to finish the League 1 season strongly

Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh says his team won’t be easing off.

Gills sit 14th in League 1, relatively clear of danger and eight points adrift of the play-off chase.

But it’s certainly not all over for the Gills, according to their manager.

He said: “We are aiming to try and win as many matches as we can, exactly as when I first came here. We have eight games left and have to win as many as possible. People are fighting for their futures and we want to get as many points as we can.

“Nobody will be resting or slacking, that’s for sure.”

Several players, including keeper Glenn Morris, Joe Martin, Leon Legge, Gavin Hoyte, Danny Galbraith and Antonio German are out of contract in the summer and all will be hoping to convince Edinburgh they deserve new deals.

“It is quite common that come the end of the year, you’ve got a fair amount of players out of contract,” added the Gills boss.

“We have a few here that are needing to impress and who I am assessing. That is the same at most clubs.

“I need to be fair to everyone and myself so I know the decisions I make come the end of the season are the right ones. I need to make sure I give myself the best chance."
