Gillingham looking to sign Bury midfielder Callum Reilly on a permanent basis

Gillingham are working on a deal to bring Callum Reilly back to the club.

The 24-year-old midfielder enjoyed a loan spell with the Gills and made 15 appearances.

His parent club Bury have been relegated from League 1 and the player has another year on his contract there.

Gills boss Steve Lovell wants the player back on a permanent basis.

Lovell spoke of his desire to keep the player towards the latter end of the season and has confirmed that the club are negotiating with him and the relevant parties to get a deal done.

The Gills boss said: "I said in January that we were looking for a left-sided midfield player. He was high on my list and it is the same now.

“He brings us so much when he is in the team.”

The Gills are also keen to conclude a deal for their player-of-the-year Mark Byrne.

Lovell said: “We have offered Mark a good deal and it is up to him whether he wants to take it or not, only he can make that decision.

“Mark is a great professional and he has had a good year. He can get better with us. It is important that he stays with us.”
