Gillingham rest after international call-ups mean League 1 game at home to Walsall is postponed

Gillingham took a breather this week ahead of the League 1 promotion showdown.

Justin Edinburgh’s men are without a game on Friday after their fixture against Walsall was postponed due to their opponents having three international call-ups.

The Gills visit Bury on Easter Monday and then have seven matches in April before the last game of the season against promotion rivals Millwall on May 8.

Edinburgh said: “We are going into a month that is going to be pretty manic.

“The games will be turning around quickly and it was the last time we are really going to get some rest into the players. We gave them an extra day off throughout the week.

“We are cautious of the amount of work we are putting into their legs on the training ground, bearing in mind we have got a game on Monday.

“It is just about trying to get things right as a manager. You hope the planning and preparation is right because April is going to be a massive month for us.

“It is a long week before we play Bury but I know the players are buoyed by the last couple of performances and feel we are coming back into form at the right time.”
