Gillingham have been told they have two months to file their accounts

Gillingham have been warned over the late filing of their company accounts.

A first Gazette notice has been issued to the club, warning them that if they don’t file their accounts within two months then the company will be struck off.

Their assets would then go to the Crown.

The accounts, made up to May 31, 2016, were due by February 28.

Companies House have sent the club a letter – a standard procedure – setting out their deadline.

It reads: “The Registrar of Companies gives notice that, unless cause is shown to the contrary, at the expiration of two months from (May 2) the name of Gillingham Football Club Ltd will be struck off the register and the company will be dissolved.”

It is likely that the club are waiting for the season to finish before the accounts are filed. Gillingham could be relegated to League 2 on Sunday if they lose at Northampton.

The club did not wish to comment when asked.

Their last accounts, made up to May 2015, showed a pre-tax profit of £188.438.
