Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh says players are determined to give his former club Tottenham a game when sides meet in EFL Cup

Justin Edinburgh insists his Gillingham team aren’t heading to Spurs for a jolly-up.

A third round match EFL Cup tie awaits the Gills and they will be backed by almost 3,000 fans at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Gillingham are massive underdogs but Edinburgh won’t be rolling over for his former team.

He said: “We’re not going there for the evening out. Whatever team we face it is going to be fantastic. We want to go and achieve something. It’s a big ask but we saw in the last round it can be achieved.”

Gillingham beat Premier League Watford in extra-time to progress to round three, only the sixth time in their history that they had beaten top-flight opposition.

Edinburgh won the League Cup with Tottenham back in 1999 and he will be the focus for many when the teams meet. But while he admits it will be an emotional night for him personally, it’s not his night.

He said: “The night is about Gillingham. It’s about the players. They got us there and they are the ones who are going to try and cause another upset."

Ryan Jackson is available after a one-match ban although former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara is unlikely to be involved as he is still recovering from a foot injury.

But Emmanuel Osadebe, who attended Tottenham’s foundation college programme, and Paul Konchesky, who played there on loan, will be in familiar surroundings when they step out at White Hart Lane.
