Gillingham's Chris Herd doubtful for Bolton clash after knee injury

Chris Herd is a doubt for Gillingham's clash with Bolton on Tuesday.

Defender Herd came off at half-time against Scunthorpe on Saturday after aggravating a knee injury. It was his first appearance in four games.

“He’d been out for a couple of weeks before,” explained boss Ady Pennock.

“His knee is very unstable to be fair to him and every time he slides or twists it he is in a lot of pain.

“It is a worry, he is one of those players that will strap it up but he couldn’t carry on.

“We’ll assess him and see what happens. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was fit on Tuesday.”

Definitely out is midfielder Josh Wright, who starts a two-match ban after picking up his 10th caution of the season at the weekend.

Ryan Jackson (groin) will undergo a late fitness test before the game.

Bolton arrive at Priestfield just one point outside the top two, after a 4-2 win at second-placed Fleetwood on Saturday.

Gills will also be keen to avenge a 4-0 defeat in front of the television cameras in December in the reverse fixture.

“Bolton are a very good side,” stated Pennock. “I said before Saturday that Scunthorpe beat us 5-0 at their place so there was a bit of revenge going on.

“With Bolton I saw the game on TV and they beat us 4-0 so we’ve got to do the same."
