Jake Hessenthaler is confident of avoiding a relegation scrap in 2015.

The Gills are four games unbeaten in League 1 but still remain dangerously close to the relegation places.

A few more wins, however, could see things looking a lot brighter in the new year for the Gills.

Hessenthaler will be hoping the run continues when they play Chesterfield at Priestfield on Saturday.

“We don’t want to look down now – we want to keep moving up,” said Hessenthaler.

“Chesterfield are just three points above us and we can close right up on them.

“It is quite tight down below but it is tight above as well up the table and another couple of good wins and we are right back in it again.

“That’s our aim now, to push up the league.”

Gillingham have gone six unbeaten in all competitions and the mood in the camp is understandably good.

“Wins help everyone to build confidence,” said the 20-year-old. “We all stick together when we are going through tough times, but when it is going well it is even better. We are all very happy at the moment.”
