A final-day showdown will decide whether Holcombe Ladies claim a Premier Division play-off spot.

The league newcomers sit fourth with a game to play and they travel to unbeaten leaders Surbiton on Saturday in need of a result.

Hampering their efforts is the fact that their Scottish international striker Sarah Robertson is missing with a facial injury.

Coach Kevin Johnson said: “She is having her teeth moved back in place and has had a brace fitted after taking the ball full in the face.

“There is a small possibility she will play this weekend and we certainly want everyone available for this one."

The top four teams in the Premier Division will battle it out in the end of season play-offs next weekend at the Olympic Park and the winners will represent England in Europe. This season has been Holcombe’s first at the top level of hockey.

“We have yet to beat a team above us and there is no better time to do it,” said Johnson.

“If we lose, then we need other results to go our way. We are pragmatic about it. If we don’t win it, then do we deserve to be in the play-offs? Possibly not.

“We don’t want to be making up the numbers.

“If we win, though, it will be a warning shot to Surbiton and in a one off play-off match, it could be anyone’s game.”
